Conservation Easements:
The BLT offers opportunities for private landowners, the town and other entities to potentially benefit from tax incentives and more importantly to protect their land in perpetuity. We are currently negotiating two conservation easements in Bedford, one with a private landowner and one with the town.
Our most recent fully executed conservation easement is on the Bedford Village Common land near Bell Hill Rd. and Route 101. Together the Town and the BLT worked out the terms of the easement, which were approved by NH DES. The BLT will monitor this and all its easements in perpetuity to assure compliance with the terms agreed upon in each easement deed.

| The Bedford Land Trust (BLT) holds conservation easements on a number of properties in town in order to protect these lands in perpetuity.
See the list and information about each property on our Properties page. |
Trail Maintenance:
This year there was quite a bit of work to do at the Van Loan Preserve. As you know Mother Nature uprooted quite a few large white pines in February! Trustees Randy Roody, Merv Taub, Jeanene Procopis, Bob Jones, Marilyn Brock and Rita Carroll cleared the trees, thanks to Randy's and Merv's expertise with a chain saw. There is still more to do, but the trails are passable. If you see a problem on any of the properties that the BLT monitors, please let us know - we appreciate those of you who use the trails and help keep them clean. Thank you and enjoy your time outside! |
