New Hampshire's open spaces and productive lands are rapidly being lost. Since its inception, the Bedford Land Trust has been concerned with identifying ways to help preserve Bedford's rural character and unique qualities. This includes providing access to Bedford's natural assets, educating the public about land preservation,
establishing conservation areas for wildlife habitat, resource protection and passive public recreation.
The Bedford Land Trust is a private non-profit organization. It is a separate entity from the Town of Bedford. However, we do hold conservation easements on some town owned properties, such as the Benedictine Land, Joppa Hill Farm and others.
Our mission statement is:
"to protect and conserve strategic parcels of land in the Bedford, NH area, to preserve our rural character, and to provide protection for water resources and wildlife habitat for the benefit of the people in Bedford and the surrounding area."
What we do:
By holding conservation easements we help landowners protect their properties. We also hold some easements that have been required by the NH Department of Environmental Services as mitigation for environmental impacts caused by development in town. We currently have a stewardship program in place that monitors all the properties we protect. We are working on improving trails and making maps so that residents can enjoy hiking in some of the beautiful properties in Bedford.
We now have printable trail maps for the Van Loan Preserve and the Benedictine Land.
Your support helps us meet our operating, stewardship and land protection costs.
Thank you for your support! UPCOMING EVENTS:
