Dear Visitor to the BLT Web site,

I was hired in October of 2006 as the first staff person for the Bedford Land Trust. I work part-time, 10 hours/week from a small office I have set up in my home. I also have been working for the Town of Milford Conservation Commission for more than seven years.

Hiring me as a staff person allows the BLT to move to a more professional level. With 337 acres that we currently protect and potential for protecting more land in Bedford, we must be sure that we fulfill all our obligations, such as monitoring and caring for our easement properties. We also must expand our member base to allow us to fund land protection and other important projects that come our way. We are currently in compliance with the standards set by the Land Trust Alliance, which is "the national convener, strategist and representative of more than 1,600 land trusts across America". We plan to enter their Accreditation Program next year. Right now I am working on organizing and expanding the mailing list, acknowledging donations, improving the Web site and drafting newsletters.

One of my important tasks is to be accessible to the public. We now have a phone (603-472-2216) and an email address . I am available to answer any questions that you may have. In the future, we hope to be offering trail maps and to host events on some of the properties that we protect.

I look forward to hearing from you and offering you more services from the Bedford Land Trust!

Sincerely,

Rita Carroll
