New trail at Van Loan Preserve leads to beautiful wetlands view

In November 2016, the Bedford Land Trust constructed a spur trail.  Called "Gene's View" (named for Eugene Van Loan III), the trail leads from the Anna & Pic loop approx. 1/10 mile to an open view of a scenic marsh area.  The new trail starts near the junction of the Anna & Pic loop and the Hemlock loop.

Present for the 2/18/17 dedication of the new "Gene's View" trail are Rita Carroll, Eugene "Gene" Van Loan III and Jeanene Procopis.  Rita and Jeanene are co-chairs of the Bedford Land Trust.

This trail is named in honor of Eugene M. Van Loan III for his longtime public service as both Town and School Moderator and for his efforts to preserve his family’s land with a conservation easement granted to the Bedford Land Trust in 2000.  (In 2011, the family donated the 68-acre open space parcel to the Town of Bedford, but the conservation easement held by the Bedford Land Trust runs with the land in perpetuity).

Members and guests of the Bedford Land Trust enjoyed a beautiful day hiking to the end of the new "Gene's View" trail on Saturday, February 18, 2017.
